The priest of the Yajurveda who carries out the physical acts of the sacrifice and murmurs its prose formulas (yajus).

  • The Four Fires Treatise

    These are, for the most part, short prose utterances, muttered by the priest called the adhvaryu , the one who does the physical work of the rite.

  • The Rules of the Rite Treatise

    A single solemn sacrifice could run for days and involve several priests, each with a defined office, each acting at a defined moment. The adhvaryu measured and built and poured.
