daitya
दैत्य daityaA class of asuras descended from the sage Kashyapa and his wife Diti; Hiranyakashipu, Hiranyaksha and Bali are daityas. The Manusmriti (12.48) places the daityas in the highest of its three states of being, alongside ascetics and brahmins.
