guru
गुरु guruA spiritual teacher who has realised what they teach and transmits it within a living line. The word is read as gu, darkness, and ru, its remover: the one who leads from the unreal to the real. More than an instructor, the guru gives initiation (diksha) and stands at the head of the guru-shishya parampara, the chain by which a teaching is handed down.
