The 'pot-ticket' method of village-assembly selection recorded in the Chola Uttaramerur inscriptions: candidates' names were written on palm-leaf tickets, placed in a pot, and drawn out by a child to choose the governing committees by lot, one of the earliest documented electoral procedures.
