HomeGlossarymaha yagna

maha yagna

महायज्ञ mahāyajña

The great sacrifices enjoined daily on the householder, traditionally five (pancha mahayajna): to the gods (deva), to the seers through study, to the ancestors (pitri), to other living beings (bhuta), and to fellow humans as guests (atithi). The Grihya Sutras frame ordinary life as a continual round of giving.
