நாயன்மார் nāyaṉmār

The sixty-three Tamil poet-saints devoted to Shiva (6th-9th c.), whose passionate vernacular hymns (collected in the Tevaram) helped launch the bhakti movement in the south. Their Vaishnava counterparts were the Alvars.
