patha

पाठ pāṭha

A mode of Vedic recitation. The three natural modes are samhita (continuous), pada (word by word) and krama (overlapping pairs); the eight 'woven' modes (vikritis), including jata and ghana, recite the words in elaborate forward-and-backward permutations to guard the exact sequence.
