It is a karma-darshana , a way of seeing the ripening of prarabdha karma , that portion of past action which has begun to bear fruit in this life, a doctrine we set out in our account of karma and rebirth.

The prarabdha , the ripened karma that became this very body, was loosed before the seed was ever roasted, and an arrow already in the air does not stop because the archer has laid down the bow.

This is the doctrine of prarabdha pushed to its most hopeful edge.

Prarabdha karma is the portion drawn from the granary and set ripening in this present life.

It sets the terms of the return: the species, the circumstances, the whole frame that the last chapter called prarabdha .

But the fourth arrow, the prarabdha , was already in flight before the archer laid down the bow.

The answer given is that prarabdha karman , the portion of past action that has already begun to bear fruit, is burnt off only by being lived through.
