…nds of karma: sanchita , the whole accumulated store from past lives; prarabdha , the portion that has ripened and is being lived out as the present life; and agami , the fresh karma being generated now.

It is a karma-darshana , a way of seeing the ripening of prarabdha karma , that portion of past action which has begun to bear fruit in this life, a doctrine we set out in our account of karma and rebirth.

The prarabdha , the ripened karma that became this very body, was loosed before the seed was ever roasted, and an arrow already in the air does not stop because the archer has laid down the bow.

This is the doctrine of prarabdha pushed to its most hopeful edge.

Prarabdha karma is the portion drawn from the granary and set ripening in this present life.

It sets the terms of the return: the species, the circumstances, the whole frame that the last chapter called prarabdha .
