rasabhasa

रसाभास rasābhāsa

The "semblance of rasa": a flavour gone wrong, an emotion aimed at an improper object or pitched in the wrong key (desire for another's spouse, say, or a one-sided love), which the trained connoisseur registers as a false note. The theory that aesthetic taste, like a scripture, can be counterfeited.
