samaya
समय samayaA binding convention, used in two unrelated technical senses. In Shaiva tantra the samayas are the rules an initiate accepts at initiation, and a samayin is the grade of initiate who carries them. In Srividya, samaya or samayachara is the internal 'right' worship in which the goddess is adored within the subtle body, associated with Lakshmidhara and set against the external Kaula path. Vajrayana Buddhism uses the same word for the vows taken at abhisheka, which is a third thing again.
