The gods had won a battle and were pleased with themselves. Then a spirit appeared that fire could not burn and wind could not move, and when it vanished a woman was standing in its place, and she was the only one who knew what it had been. Her name was Uma Haimavati, and the tradition met her as a teacher long before it made her a bride.
